Support Workers – Fort William
£9.00 Per Hour
30 hours per week (2 vacancies)
Vacancy Reference: 6437
Sense Scotland offer Care at Home and Housing Support to a growing number of people with disabilities in the Fort William area. We are currently seeking to recruit support workers to support people with communication support needs and a physical and or learning disability to live valued lives in the community.
We currently support three individuals in the Inverlochy area who require 24 hour support. In addition we support a number of individuals to access community supports. The role requires flexible working that will include a range of early shifts, backshifts and sleepovers. No two days are the same in this job and the job satisfaction that comes from supported people to lead active lives in their community and maintain their own tenancy is significant. The role will involve working alongside individuals and their families to ensure each person is being supported safely and in accordance with the life they want to lead. This will involve personal care tasks, administration of medication, support planning, good communication skills and understanding and promoting each individual’s communication skills and rights as well as planning and participating in activities in accordance with the persons wishes in interests. This could involve anything from boat trips, long local walks, shopping, going out for meals, supporting family visits or holidays. Supporting the individual to maintain their tenancy and help them shop and cook meals is also an essential part of the role.
Previous experience is not essential as you will receive extensive training and coaching for the job. You will, however, need to have a strong work ethic, be a good team player, believe passionately in the rights of people with disabilities to live valued lives and be able to work alongside individuals, families, care managers and other professionals to ensure the needs of each individual are fully met. You will need to have good communication skills, a sensible approach to managing risk and a proactive approach to making every moment count when you are working alongside the people we support.
