Touchbase Lanarkshire is Sense Scotland’s flagship Day Support Centre which is based in Hamilton. The service also provides support to some individuals living within their family home, who receive support to access a wide range of community-based activities.
Our usual working hours are Monday to Friday, ranging between 8.30am and 4.30pm, with very occasional Saturday working. Our services are growing and developing therefore we are looking for staff who can be flexible in order to meet individual service requests.
We offer support to adults who have communication support needs, physical and learning disabilities and associated health conditions. Many of the people we support require personal care and support with mobility and eating and drinking. All people we support have unique personalities and a positive contribution to make to their communities and we need your support to enable each individual to do this in their own way.
Good communication with individuals as well as their families is essential to our work and our ethos as an organisation. Some of the people we support do not communicate through speech and instead express themselves through their own method of communication. Sense Scotland has developed in depth communication support training for its staff to help individuals express themselves.
Every day is different for our staff here at TouchBase Lanarkshire, this includes driving or escorting people to from and the centre on a daily basis using our minibus. Supporting individuals with all aspects of daily living including eating and drinking, personal care and medication. We support individuals to express themselves through art and music, within our spacious art and music rooms. We offer stimulating activities such as sensory room and magic carpet, also Individuals are supported to stay active through walking, swimming, wheelchair ice skating and our in-house sunken trampoline. Accessing community resources and engaging with the local community is a key part of our work. You will also work alongside many health professionals including speech and language therapists, dietitians and physiotherapists.
You will be working in a vibrant environment with experienced and competent staff who will offer peer support, with access to support from management. When lone working within the community or in an individual’s own home you will also have access to management and peer support.
All staff benefit from extensive training and local practice events including in house coaching and mentoring. Regular one to one and practice supervision is provided. All staff will be expected to work across the range of services we provide, and this offers excellent opportunities for learning and development and improving your skills. Successful applicants must be in a position to gain qualification as determined by the SSSC for registration purposes and be able to gain professional registration with the SSSC within the timescale required, where relevant.
